Subject: The Federation will support the Salt Lake City Marathon this year.
Dear members,
The Federation board has considered the request for support in providing checks to officers for the upcoming Salt Lake Marathon.
This year’s marathon is planned to go through more of our area than before, and approx. 230 UPD officers are planned rather than the approx. 170 of last year.
As you may know, we stopped this following some real problems and concerns related to the business practice of one race promoter. We will NOT put our member’s financial interest in the Federation at risk, nor participate with anyone with sketchy practices.
We have carefully considered this request, and the board has agreed to this support with several clear stipulations. First and foremost, as old narcs have said in the past, “never front the money!” The Federation will ensure that all money intended for our officers is paid well in advance. We have some reassurance that there is no longer involvement in the Race by the past promoter.
The Marathon will be paying most officers $40.00 an hour for this event. I appreciate that many of our members hesitated to work this event in support of the Federation concerns about the past promoter.
I thank them for that, but we have had that careful look and will be paying attention to the event. I hope if this is an event that will put some needed money into your finances ~ you should consider the Marathon.
We are glad to make sure officers are paid promptly for your work on an event such as this.
Respectfully,
Don
